A Chat with Master Healer: Tan Keng Ann

img_0996
This month I have the Master Healer, Tan Keng Ann with me. I first know her through my Awaken~The Divine You Journey with The Golden Space. We were together from Nepal Retreat all the way to Peru Retreat. And one the thing in particular that I have noticed in the retreat is;  she would always have people queuing up for her magic touch!
.
Hui Lee: Welcome. I always curious on what inspired you to be a healer?
.
Keng Ann: The desire to be with, interact and also to alleviate people of their sufferings.  Being a lineage of healers I must say that it took a while to self realize all these comes from my own heart and desire to do so.  What I see in my family’s in their beingness to love, empathize and give, the non-bias way of healing influence me tremendously.  But it was when I finally decided to be a physiotherapist that I concluded that this Is what I want to do in my life.
.
.
Hui Lee: That makes me wonder about how it feels like growing up in a family of healers? Do you feel pressurize? Do your family have any expectations for you to become a doctor?
.
Keng Ann: Well, I do feel very blessed to be growing up in such a family.  My family are mainly holistic healers themselves and hence looking at the bigger picture of one’s wellness is always how things are viewed.  My granddad’s teaching has been a great influence on the family.  Medicine is all about what the person needs and not how great the healer is in curing everything.  He often leads life just as how he administers his medicine…make it simple and just right.  Hence, I too never pressure to be this or that.  However I grew is through nurturing, how they set their examples and I choose with what “wisdom” I have at that time.  Of course, the lineage issue did come my path and I did at one point have a “self-pressure” situation to continue the line, but not enough to sway me either way.  I was given more than enough space to make my decision.
.
.
Hui Lee: I like your granddad’s wisdom, “make it simple and just right”. Can you with us 3 tips on how our reader can embody a more holistic lifestyle.
.
Keng Ann: First of all, I would like to define the word “holistic”.  Holistic living to me is all about the more total well being of a person’s state of living.  In another word, we look at the lifestyle of your body. mind, emotions and etc and how all these components of “You” work with one another to be simply the healthy positive you.
.
Your body may seem to work in a complex way, but it is actually very simple in its need….eat well, sleep/rest well, exercise and drink lots of water.  But how many of us actually understand what this means?  Yes, there are lots and lots of health products and services that try to define how to achieve this, but truly it is much simpler than what they share.  We just have to listen to our body….yes listen.  It does not tell you to go to which restaurant, it just tells you what food to eat, it just wishes for a routine 8 hours sleep time to do its work, lots of plain water or perhaps juices, so keep your bodily health simple and routine.
.
Our minds are frequently occupied by things, responsibilities, issues and to do lists.  Chronic stress comes when we have these running in our heads over a long period of time.  Spending time off or time just to be yourself out of these demands is important.  That way, your mind can empty out and leave space for creative solutions and keep you fresh and alert.
.
The heart is the more complex component within us and it affects things fastest.  But what the heart wants is simply to be happy.  What makes you happy is something important in our day to day life and also our long-term journey on this Earth.  Learn what can change your mood quickly during your downtime, be aware of what you do or your environment and its impact on your mood.  Improve your surrounding to ensure a happy you most of the time is important for your emotional health.
.
In fact, all these 3 tips for the individual body, mind and emotion also influences and improves the well being of the other components, eg sufficient sleep also allows you to have a fresh mind.  Hence, to have a positive lifestyle is a study of yourself as an individual and meeting your own needs.
.
.
Hui Lee: That is quite a comprehensive tips of a holistic lifestyle. For me, going through Awaken~The Divine You journey with you, I could understand the importance of those 3 elements in order to have a healthy positive me. But for the audience who never have that experience before; what can they do, if they cannot listen to their body? Or they simply don’t know the methods of listening to their body, empty out their mind etc… What would be your advise?
.
Keng Ann: Well, I must say that our body, mind and emotions are a good friend that supports one another for your holistic well being.  Hence, they do adjust amongst themselves a little till they really cannot sustain your well being.  They also do understand that we at time don’t listen to them as well as we should.  Hence they will shout to us or even scream…eg pain, chronic fatigue, allergies, addictions and prolong emotional downtime.  If you can, do address these symptoms early and that is in itself is listening to them.  Seeking help from healers or taking up relevant courses, meditations and workshops can also give you a good base of knowledge and insights into what changes you may need. The Golden Space has quite a varieties of classes to suit your needs. Besides healing work, I do conduct workshops where I share both sciences based and holistic-based aspect of healthy living where you can be empowered to be the master of your health. If the readers would like to learn more, they can take up our health journey package where we can guide and empower them towards a healthy and positive life.  Medicine has already evolved beyond just giving you a bottle of magic potion and for you to come back for more of it.  Healing is about getting you independent of the healer till something else pops up for you to learn more about your well being.
.
.
Hui Lee: Lastly, you have quit from a full-time physiotherapist to become a holistic healer. What is the motivation behind the decision, as I know it wasn’t an easy one for you?
.
Keng Ann: Yes, it is not an easy one as I am already very established in my profession as a physiotherapist especially in the sports industry.  I do love this profession I must say and it has given me the opportunities to become who I am as a holistic healer today.  But perhaps as opposed to saying one healing profession is above another, and hence I chose, perhaps I would say that the learning of various healing modalities and my life journey has come to a point where I wish to share more than just a tool or a profession in itself.  Interestingly as I conclude this chapter, I realized there is much more to life if only we have access to the wisdom to know how or be able to be empowered to be who we are.  Being in the Youth and National Teams, taking care of their well being and watching them grow and shine has given me the desire to bring this wisdom to the day to day people. Wisdom is not to be kept but shared and I wish to share all that I have with whom that may cross my path.  Be it the holistic way of living from my family, the modern evidence-based approach of medicine, forth front sports medicine for maximizing the performance of athlete, energy or spiritual healing, it is all to bring out the best potential of an individual.  This is what I wish to do and hope to see in the future where people lives life free with joy, fun passions and love, to shine themselves at their full potential and a world of oneness.
