This song aims to create awareness about the saving Mother Earth together. Many countries have announced their intentions to protect the environment but only a small group of the billions of people worldwide are putting in the effort in their daily lives to make a change. Every one of us plays an important role. We have to cherish the clean environment and the food that Mother Nature has given us and be mindful of the impact our activities on the environment. eg. climate change, pollution, etc…
The keys to creating a better future lie in being loving, positive, harmonious and peaceful towards ourselves, our family, our community, our society, and our countries. One’s behaviour and energy have a big influence on our surroundings. In this song, there is a verse which reminds people that we have to stop complaining, making judgements towards each other, because such actions will create an unseen negative energy which can affect the people around and generate negative emotions such as frustration, anger and hatred. When such negative emotions circulate, they inevitably lead to negative thoughts and eventually negative actions. Without our realisation, these negative emotions that have been created will inhibit us from loving our fellow human beings, the animals and the environment that provides for us.
I have been travelling to many places these few years. My key purpose of travelling is not for relaxation, but rather to understand and study more about the cultures of different countries, their people and living habits, to understand how these are different from my own country and what I can do to improve myself and make a positive difference in my circle of life. In recent years, a number of beautiful historical cities have been destroyed by earthquakes or flooding. It started to generate my curiosity and I started wondering why all these natural disasters happen more frequently nowadays compared to when I was a kid. The earth landscape is also changing much more rapidly, with cracks appearing in the highland areas and much more frequent volcanic eruptions.
However, the strongest message came to me when I was in Uluru (Ayers Rock) in the Australian outback with my husband last Summer. We were expecting extremely hot weather, and we had prepared a lot of water and brought along a professional camera to shoot the beautiful sunrise and sunset. To our surprise, the weather we encountered was completely unexpected. Throughout the few days that we were there, we only experienced stormy weather and strong winds. We were shocked at the abnormal weather phenomena. The last day before we left the place, we went back to the rock and I saw the rainwater flowing down the sides of the rock. From afar, it seemed like the rock was crying. If you read about Uluru, you will know that the local people in Australia address the rock as the heart of their country. The shape of the rock looks just like a human heart.
All the pictures of disasters around the world, the sad news on television, the negative and cruel behaviours of the human being, the wars in various regions of the world flashed through my mind. I had a strong feeling how the action, behaviour and emotions of humans are affecting the earth. At that moment, I told myself that I had to write about the feelings that I experienced into a song and spread it to everyone. I want to voice it out loud to the world. We all have to make an important step to create a better world.
We have to reduce using things that cause pollution and are harmful to the environment, we have to reduce our judgments towards others to create a more joyful earth – Michele
We have to reduce using things that cause pollution and are harmful to the environment, we have to reduce our judgments towards others to create a more joyful earth, we have to consume healthy food to reduce the need for medication. In conclusion, we have to create a balanced eco-system, for whatever we do now will have a huge impact on tomorrow.
Guardians of Mother Earth are a green initiative of The Golden Space, a mindfulness and wellness training centre. Our vision is to create a world where everyone loves, honours and becomes one with Mother Earth. We believe that everything is interconnected as we share the same living space. Singapore government has announced 2018 as a year of climate action. In supporting government direction, we have launched ‘Small Steps to Big Change’ as our theme for 2018. We aim to create awareness of the impact of our actions on the planet through various programs such as free talks, clean-up campaigns, workshops and events such as art exhibitions.
